Looks Inspired by American Hustle

lookIt’s Valentine’s Day, and I do realize this post is a little over the top, but my friend and I just couldn’t help ourselves after watching American Hustle a few nights ago. The wardrobe in this movie was amazing, and the hair and make-up immediately had my wheels turning on how I wanted to recreate these looks. Believe it or not, my friend Monet had all of these pieces just hanging in her closet! I know, every girls dream. This movie had me in awe. I loved the sex appeal that these women exuded. I thought to myself, being Valentine’s Day and all, this would be the perfect day to take your look to another level and blow your man away (okay, maybe this is slightly over the top) but just imagine how many heads you will turn! For both looks, we started with my usual favorite Dolce & Gabbana Foundation and Powder. For Monet’s look, I used a toned down neutral palette starting with the eyes. I first used a MAC Eyeshadow in Coquette. I then layered along the lashline, an eyeshadow by Laura Mercier called Black Karat. I lined her eyes, both top and bottom, with my Dolce & Gabbana Eyeliner in Stromboli and completed the eyes with Shu Uemura Farfallina lashes. To warm up her complexion, we used Laura Mercier Warm Bronze Powder and I brightened her cheeks with MAC blush in Peaches. I then layered on a couple coats of MAC Cremesheen Lipstick in Ravishing to complete her Amy Adam’s look. This look is perfect for both day and night and wasn’t nearly as over the top as mine. Now on to my look. I started with the sultry, smokey eyes inspired by Jennifer Lawrence. I first applied an eyeshadow by Edward Bess in Mystery. I too added along my lashline (and applied wet) the Laura Mercier eyeshadow in Black Karat for a hint of shimmer. I then completely lined my eyes with Loreal’s Infallible eyeliner in Carbon Black and smudged the liner with the remaining shadow I had left on my brush to create that smokey look. I applied one of my favorite bright pink blushes by Too Faced in Sweet Pink to give my cheeks that extra pop of color. Last but not least, the BOLD red, glossy lips. I used Wet n Wild Lipstick in Stoplight Red and topped it off with a MAC lipgloss called Russian Red. To date, this has been one of my most detailed posts on make-up, and it has also been one of my favorites! I cannot tell you how much fun we had shooting these pics, never mind the looks we got while shooting them. After all, this is Hollywood! So whether you are feeling a little daring or just want a fun look, go out and paint the town RED tonight. Have a fabulous Valentine’s Day! You are guaranteed to turn heads- xo

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Nylon

Hot pink is the color of the season. Be BOLD and be DARING with bright pink lips! One of my favorite discoveries this past year has been these little gems. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics created the perfect lipstick called Lip Tar, $18 at Sephora.com. They come in a ton of colors (I’m wearing nylon) they are highly pigmented and a little goes a long way. What I love about these, is they stay put for hours. I always like to layer a coat of clear gloss on top to prevent my lips from drying out. Each tube comes with an applicator brush as well. What more could a girl want?

Batiste Dry Shampoo

Do you ever have one of those mornings when you’ve overslept and you realize you don’t have enough time to wash your hair? I have the answer. This dry shampoo by Batiste is a lifesaver. I have been using dry shampoos for a few years. Even though I have seen this brand in stores for a while, I just recently purchased it on a recommendation from my friend who says this is the best dry shampoo out there. These Batiste Dry Shampoos, $7.99 at Drugstore.com, come in tons of different scents. The tropical scent (shown above) smells like coconuts which I absolutely love. All you do is hold the spray about six inches from your scalp and spray in short bursts. Then gently massage the product into your scalp and hair. It definitely adds volume, texture and removes any oil build up you may have weighing your hair down. Washing your hair every day is not a good idea, so if you can skip a few days and use this in between, you will be doing your hair a favor. This product is going to BLOW you away- promise!

Dolce & Gabbana The Eyeshadow Quad in Eden

I always come across eyeshadow colors that quite frankly scare me. I’m either afraid that it will clash with my outfit, be hard to pair with a lip color, or just look plain crazy! When I first saw this Dolce & Gabbana Eyeshadow Quad in Eden, $60 at Saksfifthavenue.com, I thought the only color I would probably ever use was the cream color to highlight my brow bone. But I must admit, I absolutely love the pastel colors as well. The shadows are highly pigmented and add the perfect amount of color to the eye area. I did my eye make-up as usual, and then I applied the mint green color along the inner eyelid area and right below the lash line in the corners. It really added a nice contrast to my make-up and also made my eyes appear greener than they are. Word of advice, DON’T be afraid of color…you could discover you’ve been missing out on a whole new look. Plus you never know who’s attention you might grab by batting your lashes!

Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm in Unapologetic

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the color of this Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm in Unapologetic, $6.49 at Target.com. This picture does NOT do it justice. This product came as a suggestion from my friend Keri (Thank you Keri! ) and let me tell you, this balm definitely does not disappoint. First and foremost, the color is highly pigmented and has a slightly minty taste. I was a little skeptical at first because of the size of the pencil. I thought how on earth am I going to be able to stay inside my lip line without looking like a five year old that has been playing in her Mom’s make-up? But I was able to apply this in a matter of moments and it was perfect! Even though the word MATTE is in the name of this balm, to me, it has more of a creamy texture. This balm has major staying power and is the perfect color to brighten up your face and give your lips that bright pop of color. There is also a lacquer version of these pencils as well that I am dying to try. I will definitely keep you posted on those. Go out and pick up one of these Revlon Matte Balm’s today, you are sure to grab everyone’s attention!
