Be Grateful Everyday & Express Yourself!

Be Grateful!

So I woke up on this beautiful Saturday morning in L.A and wanted to start my day with a new ritual of the five things I’m grateful for.

I’ve decided I wanted to start every morning doing this and see if it helps change my mood. Will it set the stage for what usually seems to be a daily challenge of, A) having too much on my plate and B) dealing with nonsense? I know everyone can relate to living a hectic lifestyle. Whether it be your career, family, health concerns, money issues or ALL of the above, life is just pretty darn stressful! Ugh. But we all have many things to be grateful for everyday.

Today, one of the things I’m grateful for is that I’m super vocal. In fact, I rarely have a problem expressing myself. Of course, it should always be done in a tasteful way, but I believe having a voice and being heard is very empowering. Often times, I find myself fighting for others who don’t feel comfortable allowing their voice to be heard. We all have different personalities and comfort zones. Not everyone is comfortable voicing their opinion or coming to the aid of someone that is afraid to speak up.

So I challenge all of you to find five things every day you are grateful for (even if it might seem like the smallest thing, for instance, running water). It’s amazing when you take a few minutes out of your day to count your blessings. It can instantly change your mood and set the tone for your entire day. After all, beauty is only skin deep, but having a beautiful soul simply radiates from within… and a little lipstick never hurt either!

All you need is LOVE

I try and live my life as organically and real as I can. Living in L.A. consists of a lot of “Smoke and Mirrors” but I have always embraced the fact that I am flawed just like everyone else. I have insecurities, I’ve lost at love over and over again, I’ve experienced illnesses, depression, deaths and heartache beyond belief…but at the end of the day, I wouldn’t change my path or journey for anything. My rough road has lead me to become a voice for many people afraid to speak up and ask for help. There are so many people that have shown me love throughout my life and the one’s that stuck around during my darkest days are the people in my life I will forever cherish. LOVE is one of the most important feelings to embrace during our lifetime. Love also comes in many forms. My family is the reason I continue to grow and become stronger every day. My friends (& you know who you are) that have been by my side through the good and bad times are truly a god send and last but not least, my pets have always brought me the purest form of unconditional love. In light of what has been transpiring around me the past few weeks, I thought my post should be reflective of my actual feelings and not about a beauty product. After all, LOVE looks great on everyone. Love yourself and the world will love you right back…I promise!

Day 5: Trader Joe’s Honey Mango Moisturizing Shave Cream

trader joes

With Summer just around the corner, this next bargain find might just become a staple in your life like it is mine! I’m lucky enough to live on top of a Trader Joe’s (literally) which definitely makes my life so much easier at times. I love their ever changing assortment of skincare lately and I have quickly fallen in LOVE with their Honey Mango Shave Cream. I was a little skeptical at first because, as you all know, I have eczema and I have to be super careful with what I use on my sensitive skin. First and foremost, this stuff smells AMAZING! The consistency is definitely a cream, so if you are in to the foaming shave gels, this one’s not for you. But this cream is perfect for getting a clean, close shave. It’s also a bargain at just $3.49. So the next time you feel like baring it all, or just a little, reach for my favorite shave cream on the planet! I’m pretty sure you will fall in love too-

Day 2: Natural White 5 Minute Teeth Whitening

So what will a dollar get you these days? Super WHITE teeth! I promise…For years, I have loved Crest Whitestrips and for years, the price of these little superstars keep getting more and more expensive! Granted, they have vastly improved in the past 10 years, but are still a little pricey (but oh so worth it!) Well, I’m going to let you in on a little secret. You can get a great product at the Dollar Tree that whitens your teeth in a matter of days. Yep, you heard me correctly. It’s called Natural White 5 Minute Teeth Whitening and although it is not as nearly convenient as the little strips, it’s a breeze to use and really works. It makes my teeth super white after just one use. I always put the whitening gel in the tray right before I jump in the shower and since you are only supposed to leave it in for 5 minutes, this works out perfectly. Plus, I know I can avoid anyone seeing me look like I’m about to go into the boxing ring! With all of the expenses we have in life, isn’t it nice to know you can have a beautiful smile doesn’t cost you hundreds of dollars? So go ahead and flash those pearly whites!

Race to Erase MS: My sister’s journey with MS

For those of you that know me personally, you know my family means more to me than anything. I have always been an open book with my readers and when I started this blog a year and half ago it was in the midst of a devastating breakup. What most of you don’t know, is a year earlier my identical twin Julie was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. I often times find writing and posting pictures therapeutic and this blog has become so much more than just a hobby to me. In a world that is greatly consumed with painting a perfect picture via social media, life isn’t always what it seems. I will tell you that there are a handful of people in my life that have been my support system. It’s amazing how a few people can help you get through your darkest days.

This past month, my sister decided to come out and start talking about her MS. I will tell you, each person with MS has a different journey. My sister has good days and bad days, but she is one of the strongest people I know. I was in denial for the first year. I didn’t want to learn anything about the disease. I was afraid to read what MAY happen. I will tell you, with all of the facts and research going on I truly believe there will be a cure for MS in the next ten years. I think one of the hardest parts about this disease are the misconceptions and I will say, sometimes people just say dumb stuff! A lot of people automatically think of Annette Funicello when they hear the word MS. As many of you probably know, Jack Osbourne also has MS and he is doing great. I have friends with family members that have had MS for thirty plus years and they are healthy, walking and living normal lives. A close friend of mine has a friend with MS who runs marathons.

There are so many great charities around the world that are paving the way to find a cure for MS. As you all know, I’m a huge shoe fanatic. Brian Atwood has partnered with Donald Robertson for a brilliantly curated collection of heels with the proceeds going to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Race to Erase MS is another great charity that has been heavily involved in finding a cure and they have the support of many actors and celebrities as well. Their annual gala has brought in millions of dollars for research. My sister is starting her own charity and is also about to start filming a documentary on her journey with MS. We have been blessed to have been raised in the entertainment industry from a very young age, so the amount of support has been amazing. Sometimes in life, we have to take a misfortune and turn it into a blessing. MS has given my sister a voice and has also attached a face, one of the many faces of MS to this disease.

I think in life, we sometimes find ourselves in the midst of a wakeup call. I will tell you, life is short so make it count. Don’t sweat the small stuff and tell the people that matter the most in life how much you love them..every day. I try and check myself in those moments when I’m complaining about something trivial. I’m truly lucky to have my health, the best family and friends on the planet and I’m also living my dream… and to my support system (you know who you are!) I love you more than you will ever know. I’m one lucky girl! xx
