Sunblock…The Key to Aging Gracefully

sun

People always ask me what the most important thing is to aging gracefully. Although there are many things that contribute to slowing down our aging process, my number one answer is always applying sunblock. I have been an avid user of sunscreen since the age of fifteen. Now mind you, when I was first discovered by a modeling scout many years ago, I was at a surf competition and I was probably the darkest I have been in my entire life. Being part Cherokee Indian, I tan really easily. I remember my agent telling me to start staying out of the sun and always apply sunblock from that day forward. Although my grandmother always told me to do this and wear a hat, of course I didn’t listen. It wasn’t until it came from a higher source that I did what I was told! It was without a doubt the best advice in regards to aging I’ve ever received, and I’m glad I listened. I will tell you, even my foundation has an SPF in it. So every day I not only apply a sunscreen underneath my makeup, my makeup itself has an added layer of protection. The key to a facial sunblock is finding one that has anti aging benefits and one that also doesn’t make your skin too greasy or cause it to clog your pores. I have tried many sunblocks through the years and I love Neutrogena Age Shield Facial Sunblock with Helioplex, $13.79 at Walgreens.com. I love the consistency and texture of this cream and it will save your face from years of aging and damage. I did notice they have a new version out called Clear Skin, so if you tend to have problems with break outs, that might be a better choice for you. I have extremely dry skin and this works beautifully. Now go out and save face…a faux tan is so much sexier!

I’m Proud to be an American

proud
With my father being a former Marine and serving in the Vietnam War, and with many family members that have served and are currently serving in the military, I’ve always believed I live in the best country in the world. I’m truly proud to be an American! The Fourth of July is a day that I always spend with family and friends and for me there’s no better way to show my patriotism than through my artistic expression with makeup and fashion. I just had the chance to try the Dolce & Gabbana line of gloss lipsticks and I’m absolutely in LOVE. Not only are these lipsticks highly pigmented, they are ultra hydrating as well. Without a doubt, my NEW favorite lipstick is Dolce & Gabbana in Incognito, $36 @ saksfifthavenue.com. Now on to my nails. You all know my obsession with my nails, so when I get the chance to go all out, I definitely go all the way! I started with my usual base coat and then applied the Essie Red color in Russian Roulette on every nail except my ring finger. I used the Nails Inc, on the odd man out in the blue called Baker Street, $9 at sephora.com, and after it dried, I painted a coat of Sally Hansen’s Bold Gold, $3.19 at CVS.com, on top of the blue color to give it a bit of sparkle and GLAM! Quite patriotic to say the least. I just want to say “Thank You” to all of the men and women who have fought for our country. I am forever grateful for the sacrifices you have made and I’m proud to be an American! God Bless the U.S.A. Thank you Dad for all that you’ve sacrificed. You are truly the greatest man I’ve ever known and I love you- xx
